Kinderdance/Kindergym (ages 3-5) This is the first step for young dancers. This class introduces ballet, tap and basic tumbling in a creative and fun-filled setting. Instructors focus on basic ballet and tap steps as well as coordination, control and creative movement. Attire – leotard & tights /pink ballet shoes / black patent leather tap shoes 1 hour for 1st year students 1 ˝ hours for 2nd year students Ballet (ages 5 & up) The foundation of all dance forms. Body placement, flexibility, balance, alignment, strength and technique are achieved through barre and center floor work. Attire – solid color leotard & pink tights / pink split-sole ballet shoes / skirts optional Class times range from 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on age and level. Pointe (age 11 & up by audition only) Dancing on pointe, is the act of standing on the tips of the toes while performing steps from ballet. Also known as pointe work, it is performed using hard–toed and stiff-shanked pointe shoes. Dancing on pointe requires strength and skill and is a central part of a female ballet dancer's training and repertoire. Class is by invitation only. Attire – solid color leotard & pink tights / pink pointe shoes / skirts optional ˝ hour addition to ballet technique class Jazz (ages 5 & up) Jazz dancing improves coordination, musicality, body discipline and awareness. It will challenge each dancer to create their own “style”. Popular music is used for this high-energy class Attire – any style dance clothes (no shorts or t-shirts) / SoDanca tan jazz booties Class times range from 20 minutes to 1 hour depending on age and level. Lyrical (ages 9 & up) Lyrical dance is a modern dance form which fuses modern dance, jazz, and ballet. Lyrical dance is often referred to as contemporary dance. It requires excellent technique to perform, as the moves are often difficult and precise. The dancer must be well aware of facial expressions, essentially acting, to properly interpret the lyrics of the music. Attire – any style dance clothes (no shorts or t-shirts) / Capezio Foot Undeez Class times range from 20 minutes to 1 hour depending on age and level. Tap (ages 5 & up) A form of dance characterized by using one's shoes, as well as the floor, as a percussive instrument. Two major variations on tap dance exist, rhythm tap and Broadway tap. Broadway tap focuses more on the dance side, and is widely performed as a part of musical theater. Rhythm tap focuses instead on the musical side, creating sound patterns and rhythms. Attire – any style dance clothes (no shorts or t-shirts) / Capezio tan Mary Jane tap shoes Class times range from 20 minutes to 1 hour depending on age and level. Hip Hop (ages 5 & up) Hip hop dancing almost eludes definition. Like the music it accompanies, this style of dance constantly evolves and welcomes innovation across cultural boundaries. Using high-energy music, the class teaches isolation work, popping, locking and breaking. Attire – shorts, t-shirts, sweats / tennis shoes Class times range from 20 minutes to 1 hour depending on age and level. Gymnastics (ages 5 & up) Students will work to develop strength and flexibility while working on tumbling skills. Attire – leotard / no tights or footless tights / no shoes Class times range from 40 minutes to 1 hour depending on age and level. Progressions (ages 6 & up) Students focus on leaping and turning technique in this class as well as flexibility and conditioning. No choreography and no recital performance for this class. Attire – any style dance clothes (no shorts or t-shirts) / jazz shoes or foot undeez Class times range from 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on age and level. Get Fit (ages 9 & up) Students work on their total fitness using dance, aerobics, pilates, core training and strength training. No choreography and no recital performance for this class.
